Most rooms are lit by a single source, usually from the ceiling. Layered lighting combines different types of light so each space can adapt to what is happening in it.
The three layers
- Ambient light sets the overall brightness of the room.
- Task light helps you read, cook or work comfortably.
- Accent light highlights art, textures and architecture.
When each layer is on its own circuit and connected to a lighting system, you can mix them into scenes with a single touch.
Scenes for every moment
A bright, cool scene for busy mornings, a warm and soft scene for dinner and a low path light for late nights: the same room can feel completely different.
Good lighting is invisible. You only notice how good the room feels.
Getting started
Start with the rooms you use the most. A lighting plan identifies where each layer belongs and which fixtures and controls make sense for your space.
